What is Shodo?
Shodo (書道) is one of the oldest forms of traditional Japanese art, dating back to the 5th century. Shodo is a highly regarded art form both in Japan and abroad for the skill required and unique aesthetic produced. The beauty of shodo comes from the diverse use of techniques and flowing brush strokes. True shodo artists value simplicity and beauty in the work they produce, allowing the brush to flow freely to convey the feeling and meaning through the Kanji designs they produce.
Taking care of your framed calligraphy
Like any other work of art, Japanese calligraphies are vulnerable to UV. Please avoid displaying your calligraphy in direct sunlight, as continued exposure will degrade the sensitive paper and cause the calligraphy ink to fade. The high-quality yet delicate paper is also sensitive to strong moisture, so places with poor ventilation, bathrooms, powder rooms, or directly in front of an air conditioner should be avoided.
